About Trey
Trey Moore started creating The Ninja Boy Chronicles when he was a kid, building the story one chapter at a time and learning as he went. In the years since, he has had the opportunity to work as a published comic writer, contributing to Power Rangers stories for BOOM! Studios. Returning to this project now, he is able to bring that experience back to the story that started it all.
About The Ninja Boy Chronicles
The Ninja Boy Chronicles is a story that began decades ago, created in childhood, and now revisited and refined for a new audience. It follows Jonathan, a young boy thrust into a world of danger, power, and hidden truths. What begins as a young superhero story quickly expands into something far larger. The early chapters were originally created in middle school and high school. Rather than remake them from scratch, this project preserves that original work while updating the dialogue, refining the presentation, and enhancing the art where possible. The earliest chapters move quickly and reflect the style and ambition of a young creator learning as he went. As the story continues, both the art and storytelling evolve, growing in depth and complexity. This project is about more than nostalgia. It’s about finishing a story that’s been developing for years, and sharing it in the best form it can take today. At its core, The Ninja Boy Chronicles is a story about identity, purpose, and the choices that define who we become.
The Remastering Process
Every page has been cleaned up and formatted from the original art. The intent was to take what I had and make it the best version of itself I could.
1. More Detail & Backgrounds: Many of my panels and pages did not include any backgrounds. I have gone through and added the environment and details, trying to better flesh out the visual story. In some spots, more characters were added in the background. In these places, I tried to duplicate the art style I had at that time so that the inclusion was as seamless as possible.
2. Recoloring: Over the past 25+ years, the colors have faded. I did a full recoloring of each page to bring the colors back to life.
3. Re-Inking: After the recoloring, many of the ink lines appeared faded. I did a full re-inking so everything pops out.
4. Formatting: Once the page was fully cleaned up, I scanned the art and began formatting it in Photoshop. I separated the panels to better duplicate actual comic book formatting. I cleaned up and fixed any lines or mistakes in the art, and then erased all the dialogue from the word balloons.
5. Rewritten: Using the original script as a guide, I rewrote every page to bring it up to a more professional level. Names were updated, unique voices were added, and more detail was given through the narration. I did all this while staying true to the original story that my younger self was telling. Some pages have very similar dialogue while others are very different from the original. It all depended on what made sense.
